Syncope as the Presenting Feature of Splenic Rupture after Colonoscopy

Splenic rupture is a rare, catastrophic complication of colonoscopy and an exceptional cause of syncope. This injury is believed to be from direct trauma or tension on the splenocolic ligament with subsequent capsule avulsion or else from direct instrument-induced splenic injury. Diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion that may be absent because presentation can be subtle, nonspecific, and...

Cardiac Amyloidosis Presenting as Recurrent Syncope.

UNLABELLED Cardiac amyloidosis is an uncommon disease that is rarely diagnosed clinically. In this study, we present a case of a 63-year-old man with recurrent syncope and elevated troponin I levels. The patient's coronary angiography showed no significant stenosis. An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was implanted into the patient due to episodes of ventricular tachycardia. The diagnosis...

Hemorrhagic shock due to spontaneous rupture of adrenal pheochromocytoma.

The spontaneous rupture of an adrenal pheochromocytoma is an extremely rare event; however, it is potentially fatal. We report a case of spontaneous rupture of pheochromocytoma followed by an extensive retroperitoneal hematoma and hypovolemic shock. The correct diagnostic assessment determined the adequate surgical approach and a favorable outcome for the patient.

Atraumatic Splenic Rupture Due to Ectopic Extramedullary Hematopoiesis after Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation in a Patient with AL Amyloidosis

A 50-year-old man was diagnosed with multiple myeloma complicating AL amyloidosis. Splenic rupture was complicated during autologous stem cell transplantation (auto-SCT). Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was not administered. A pathological examination of the spleen revealed that CD34-positive cells were concentrated in the ruptured part of the splenic capsule. Hematopoietic cells ...

Idiopathic Splenic Artery Pseudoaneurysm Rupture as an Uncommon Cause of Hemorrhagic Shock

Splenic artery pseudoaneurysms are infrequently encountered but critical to recognize. Limited literature to date describes associations with pancreatitis, trauma, and rarely peptic ulcer disease. Hemorrhage and abdominal pain are the most common manifestations. There is typically overt gastrointestinal blood loss but bleeding can also extend into the peritoneum, retroperitoneum, adjacent organ...
